I bet you never in a million years thought you could work around the world on a boat! Most people grow up being land locked. I always felt my grandmother who was born in 1895 was very progressive in her thinking when she sent her daughter, my aunt, away to high school on a schooner around the world in the late 60’s. I can only imagine the life lessons my aunt learned as she pulled into different ports every week.
In 2011 I read the book “The 4 Hour Work Week” by Timothy Ferriss. It is an amazing book about changing your life around to enjoy time off or retirement activities while you are young and not just wait until you are too old to enjoy things. Anyone who is tired of the daily grind or is looking to really create an amazing journey of a life should read this book. You can find this book here at Amazon!
The 4-Hour Workweek: Escape 9-5, Live Anywhere, and Join the New Rich
This book is everything I am about! Finding new ways to create wealth, enjoying life throughout my life and not just waiting to retire. Most people who think negatively live in fear of this kind of lifestyle. They would rather have a small, steady paycheck then put a little effort into finding other forms of income. What they don’t realize is that they are living a rather dull, uneventful life and although it may seem the safe route, it really isn’t because their company or position could end at anytime without warning. And the older they get, the harder it will be to find a good job that pays well.
Work around the world on a boat:
There are a few things I believe in when it comes to moving forward in life:
- Get as educated as you can, especially if you thrive in school.
- Travel as much as you can. This will make you a more well rounded human being.
- Learn how to live inexpensively. Even if you end up making millions, it is still good to know how to budget your money.
- Always try new things. How will you know what you are good at or what you could be passionate about if you go home every night and sit on your sofa and watch TV?
- Create an open ended life plan of all the things you would like to experience and do. Nothing set in stone as things in life change, but some kind of path to try to follow.
As I’ve mentioned in some of my blogs, the new rich are doing things online and on the go. You can work independently from a boat in the Caribbean if that is what you choose. Will it take some effort to get to that point? It sure will, but think of the benefits.
I have three girlfriends that I catch up with several times a year for dinner. We all used to work together at a corporate job. All three have continued on that path and I being the “crazy one” ventured out on my own. Every time we get together we discuss our daily grind and activities. They still wake up at 5 am every week day, fight traffic to work, deal with moody or bi-polar bosses, watch the traffic go by from their office windows and then head home when it’s dark just to grab that glass of wine and head to bed to do it all over again. They have been doing this for more than 20 years, so they have decent salaries, but there is no excitement in their lives besides the drama they endure daily at work. Then I pipe in about how I wake up about 9-9:30am, have some hot tea, do a little yoga and if I’m not traveling, I get on the computer for a few hours and then head out to do activities. I travel every month, but most of all, I do what I want to do. I enjoy NAPS. There are months that I nap every single day….because I can. You know how right around 2pm, you are at work and your energy is starting to get low and you start looking at the clock to see when it will be time to go home? It feels like time is dragging…..that is when I take a nap. And no one can tell me not to!
For me the benefits of time flexibility out weigh the effort and risk it takes to work for yourself. My daughter will be going to college next Fall and I choose to stay around for her as she enjoys the next 4 years of school, but shortly after that, you will find me living on a power boat in the Caribbean. My husband and I have already set ourselves up to venture out into the ocean while our various streams of income keep us afloat. Now, because I love to write and share my experiences, my blogs will continue on because you can get internet pretty much anywhere in the world now by satellite. So that stream of revenue will continue to grow strong as well and really….how hard is it to show people how they could be living?
This month I will be coming out with a group of blogs that will teach you how to create an online business of your own. So read up and do it now! Don’t wait for everyone to get the idea. Act now and this time next year you will be a happy camper and may even get to work on a boat around the world. 🙂
